It's all about showing-up!

Effort and persistence multiplied by time equal excellence and mastery. It's such a simple equation but so many people have been deceived into believing that if they try something and aren't absolutely fantastic, they should give up. Alternately, people spend thirty years gaining weight, getting completely out of shape and living increasingly poor lifestyles and are shocked when that "7-minutes-a-day to killer abs" or "6 weeks to cover model fit" don't work. Why can't I look like that...I followed the program?


It's quite simple, the hole that took you three decades to dig into isn't going to be filled in a micro-burst of activity. Think about how much time it takes to build something, a house, a model, a reputation, a business; and how little time it takes to destroy it. Your body is much the same way, so think of how long people destroy themselves and how quick they expect to build back up. Kinda crazy when you look at it in those terms eh?


But, and here's the huge but, this is nothing to be distraught about, because the solution is really quite simple:


Show up!


Think about when you walk into a super messy room. Do you despair and think, I'm never going to be able to clean this and give up before you start or do you pick a single piece of clothing or object and put it away? Exactly! You pick ONE SINGLE THING and start there.


We should approach health and fitness with exactly the same attitude. What is ONE SINGLE THING we can start with? Let's do that.


As I write this it is the middle of January. This is the time when most people give-up on their New Year's resolutions. Over 90% of people give-up on their resolutions by February. Wow! So, just by continuing to show-up, you're ahead of over 90% of the population!


There is a great concept that basically states that most people overestimate what they can accomplish in a month, but underestimate what they can accomplish in a year. So the old adage about 90% of life is showing-up really is the key concept to embrace as you think about fitness.


You CAN get there, you can get the body, health and life balance that you are looking for, but it isn't going to happen in 6 weeks, and that is totally OK. In a short period of time you WILL see positive changes. You WILL feel better. You WILL know that this concept actually works AND is doable.
